The contribution of CCU to reach climate neutrality in the EU": Results and New quantification tool
Abstract: This year, CO₂ Value Europe launched a first-of-a-kind quantitative assessment of the contribution of Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) towards climate neutrality in the EU, the result of a thorough two-year exercise conducted in collaboration with international academic, industrial, technological, and economic experts on CCU, inside and outside our membership. The report showed that by 2050, at least 20% of greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction from technologies will come from CCU, with it playing a significant role in steering us towards a sustainable future.
Célia Sapart, the Scientific Director of CVE, will present the model developed during this exercise and discuss the key results."
Bio: Célia Sapart is a swiss climate scientist. For 13 years, she carried out research on greenhouse gas emissions, climate reconstructions and the interconnections between climate change and human activities. During that time, she participated in numerous long international expeditions to polar regions. In 2019, after a tough winter expedition in Antarctica, she has decided to let her research aside and to engage fully at the forefront of the climate action by joining CO2 Value Europe. CO2 Value Europe is a non-profit EU organisation that promotes the development of a carbon circular economy, based on CO2 utilisation in order to “defossilise” the industry and reach climate neutrality.
