Abstract

This presentation will discuss by-product valorization routes: conversion of CO2 to methanol and biopolymers, and glycerol conversion to monomers and biopolymers.

Bio

Dr. Aman Ullah is a professor of Lipid Utilization and Renewable Resources for Industrial Processing at the University of Alberta. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences and Technologies from the University of Genoa, Italy, while also conducting research as a visiting Ph.D. scholar at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. Dr. Ullah’s research focuses on the development of biobased materials for various applications. His work explores innovative methods to efficiently and effectively create novel materials from renewable resources, aimed at environmental remediation, biomedical, and other industrial uses. With more than 150 publications and nine patent applications (five of which have been granted), Dr. Ullah is recognized as a leader in his field. He has co-edited three books, licensed two technologies to a biorefinery startup in Alberta, and delivered >60 invited talks, including 17 plenary and keynote lectures. He has supervised/co-supervised 95 highly qualified personnel, including undergraduate and graduate students, research associates, and postdoctoral researchers. Dr. Ullah’s contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Canadian Rising Star Award from Grand Challenges Canada, the Faculty of Agricultural, Life, and Environmental Sciences Research and Innovation Award, and the ASTech Award for Innovation at the 33rd ASTech Innovation Awards.
